Has it been awhile since you last cleaned your iPhone case? Did you even realize you should clean your iPhone case? Well you should, considering it spends the vast majority of its time in your hands. And we’ve all seen enough of those “Did you know your hands are dirtier than a toilet bowl?” ads to know our hands aren’t the cleanest places. But where do you start with a dirty iPhone case? Fret not, we’ve put together a simple “How To” guide to break it down for you step by step.
Step 1: Remove your iPhone Case
First things first, you’ve got to remove your iPhone case. (Need help with that? We’ve got you covered.) Even if you have the waterproof iPhone 7, you need to separate the two for a thorough cleaning.
Step 2: Select your Cleaning Option
You have the choice between using a prepackaged alcohol wipe or a do-it-at-home dampened cloth to clean your case. The alcohol wipe will ultimately do a better job of killing off bacteria and germs, but a dampened cloth will do just fine for a general cleaning.
Step 3a: Using an Alcohol Wipe
Since it’s prepackaged, you’re ready to go! Just open up the package and remove the wipe.
Step 3b: Using a Dampened Cloth
Begin by dampening a soft cloth with water. Make sure it’s not sopping wet, but it should also have enough moisture to rub away grime. Don’t use any artificial cleaners, such as window cleaner, ammonia, or hydrogen peroxide as it can damage the case material.
Step 4: Wipe Down the Outside of the Case
Whether you’re using an alcohol wipe or dampened cloth, the remaining steps are the same. Start by wiping down the outside of the case, beginning from one end and methodically working your way to the opposite end. You may have to put some elbow grease into it if there’s visible grime. Otherwise gentle will do it.
Step 5: Wipe Down the Inside of the Case
Wipe down the inside of the case, making sure to get in all the nooks and corners and really clean them out. Be mindful of the case’s holes for the volume and on/off buttons: don’t rub them too hard and stretch your case, but don’t forget about them either!
